Following are common terms related to camping that every camper should know:
- Axe: to cut the bushes and trees for bonfire
- Boots: Boots are a type of shoe, usually made of strong material, that covers the whole foot and reaches up to or past the ankle
- Bug Spray: Also known as insect repellant, it’s a substance that you usually sprey from a can onto your skin or in the government
- Backpack: Bag that you carry on your back. It is made of strong material and is often used when hiking or walking to store your equipment.
- Barbecue/Grill: A metal frame used for cooking food outdoors over an open fire.
- Bedroll: A thick piece of material that you can sleep on when you go camping. It is more comfortable to sleep on a bedroll than the hard ground. A bedroll can be rolled up when being carried or not in use.
- Binoculars: An instrument used to help you see objects in the distance. It consists of two small telescopes (one for each eye) joined together.
- Bonfire: a large fire built in the open air
- Campfire: An outdoor fire made by people when they go camping. Sometimes it is used for cooking, for warmth or for light when camping.
- Camping Stove/Camp Stove: A small portable stove powered by gas canisters. They are designed for cooking when camping.
- Canoe: A light narrow boat with pointed ends that you move along the water using a paddle.
- Compass: a device having a magnetic needle that indicates direction on the earth’s surface by pointing toward the north
- Deck chair: for relaxing

- Gloves: for protecting and safe guarding the hands from sharp object
- Hammock: a swinging bed made of fabric or netting attached on either end to an upright object (as a tree)
- Hike: a long walk especially for pleasure or exercise

- Insect Repellent: A type of liquid or cream applied to the skin to keep insects away from you or to stop them from biting you.
- Kindling: material that burns easily and is used for starting a fire
- Kettle: A container with a lid, a handle and a spout. It is used for boiling water.
- Knife: A sharp blade used for cutting.
- Lighter: A small portable device that produces a flame.
- Lantern: a usually portable lamp with a protective covering
- Map: A diagram representing the main features/characteristics of an area of land (or sea) such as roads, rivers, hills, etc.
- Marshmallows: A soft, slightly chewy item of confectionery. They are often pink or white and typically heated over a campfire when camping.
- Matches: Small sticks of wood with a red composition at one end that ignites when rubbed against a rough surface.
- Pocketknife: A knife with one of more blades that fold into the handle. It can be carried in the pocket.
- Penknife: for cutting veg and fruits
- Rope: A length of thick strong cord
- Rucksack: a bag for carrying things on the shoulders or back
- Sunscreen: Cream that you put on your skin to help protect it from the harmful effects of the sun.
- Smore: a sweet food that is made by putting a melted marshmallow and a piece of chocolate between two crackers
- Sleeping bag: a large fabric bag that is warmly lined for sleeping outdoors or in a camp or tent
- Stake: a pointed piece (as of wood) that is driven into the ground as a marker or a support for something
- Sunblock: a preparation applied to the skin to prevent sunburn usually by blocking the sun’s ultraviolet radiation
- Tent: a portable shelter (as of canvas) stretched and supported by poles
- Trail: a path marked through a forest or mountainous region
- Trail mix: a mixture of seeds, nuts, and dried fruits eaten as a snack especially by hikers
- Thermos bottle: when feeling thirsty
